Under the protection of the Mother of God. Mariupol

The city of Mariupol is under the protection of the Mother of God. This very beautiful icon of the Mother of God has several names: Mariupol, Crimean and Bakhchisarai. The icon was named after the Greek settlement of Mariampol, a suburb of Bakhchisarai in Crimea. The name was derived from the Hodegetria icon of the Holy Theotokos and the Virgin Mary. In 1780, many Orthodox Greeks, together with Metropolitan Ignatius, accompanied by commander Suvorov, moved from the Crimea to this area. After the Russian-Turkish War from 1768 to 1774 the city of Marianοpol and the city of Melitopol were founded. Melitopol means “honey city” in Greek. Mariupol means “Mary’s city” in Greek. And now the city of Mary meets everyone with the Icon of the Mother of God of Mariupol. Our foundation visited two large families and delivered humanitarian aid to them. Thanks to everyone who supports our work!
